Thank you for visiting, Valerie. I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this, too. If I can help in any way, please contact me (you can use the contact link at the top of the page) - I can be an ear for venting or I'll answer any questions that I can. I know what you're going through. I did not have anyone that could relate so well to what I was going through at the time and that's why I created this site and wrote all the cancer articles at Hubpages that I did - so hopefully I could touch someone and give help to someone.

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother and your aunt, how tough on the family. Thank you for yoru kind words and for finding and visiting my site - I created it for many reasons, one of them being to hopefully help you! Stay positive and you yourself should stay vigilant - have you looked into the genetics testing? Best wishes to you and your family during these hard times.

Thank you so much for sharing your life experience. My 87 year old grandmother was just dx with Stage iv breast cancer and looks like her prognosis is 1-2months.
This is hard on the family since we just lost my Aunt 3 months ago from Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer.
I thank you for sharing your journey showing that people do survive and even though you went through hell and back, you actually saved your mother's life.
My heart pours out to you and since I am a 40 year old woman, I will continue to keep getting my mammograms every year.

As for the radiation being necessary, well, I don't know. I'm sure I discussed in one of my posts that it was very borderline as to whether I needed it or not. I regret having done it because it may not have been necessary at all and I've suffered so many consequences from it. I can't seem to let go of the anger because no one warned me about the possibilities of anything that's happening to me occuring - it's quite ridiculous. I could go on and on - should have written a new post! Sorry...

Hi Mariel - it's so great to hear from you and thank you for "stopping by."

I'm not sure what you're asking me - are you saying that radiation was necessary, even with its unfortunate side effects?

Well, it's still kind of a mystery as to what caused the rash, and even whether or not is was ever shingles. My radiation oncologist thinks it was shingles, then turned into "radiation recall." My dermatologist doesn't think it ever was shingles - she thinks it was some form of dermatitis which became infected (the staph infection) which then became impetigenous. She feels strongly now that the rash, which continues to this day to come back, is some sort of allergic reaction to something. She wants to do allergy testing but I'm hestitant. I still use steroid ointments twice a day to keep the minor outbreaks at bay. I'm at a loss and too frustrated to even care anymore at times...

The rash was a side effect of the radiation, but the radiation treatment might still have necessary. No?

Hi Tati,

Jenny called me today after a long while. She told me about your hubpages, which I found as well as your blog site. Throughout this entire process I have kept you in my thoughts and regret not reaching out to you. On the other hand, it's been so long I didn't know if the time was time. Dumb, eh?! Anyway, I look forward to reading on.......
Love, Mariel
